Local Government Amendment Bill 2009

Long Title This Bill amends the Local Government Act 1995and contains more than 40 amendments to improve the Act with the following key recommendations that relate to: providing local governments with new powers to enter land to remove graffiti; widening the circumstances that local governments can take gravel and other building materials from land for building purposes (roads); improving various accountability provisions relating to declaring financial interests, annual returns, elections donations and restricting the types of gifts that council members may receive; and stronger powers for the Minister and Department of Local Government and Regional Development to obtain information from local governments when carrying out investigations.
Status Assented to
Royal Assent given 16 Sep 2009 as Act No. 17 of 2009. Different sections of this Act come into operation on Royal Assent and Proclamation. For details refer to Commencement Clause of the Bill (see also Assent and Commencement information for Acts)
