Long Title |
The purpose of this Bill is to improve consumer protection, general standard of repairs conducted on motor vehicles and enhance consumer confidence in the motor vehicle repair industry. The main provisions of the Bill are as follows -
- the requirement for licensing of motor vehicle repair businesses and certification of individual repairers; - classes of repair work to be prescribed by regulation; - the disciplining of licensed businesses and individual repairers who contravene the Act or otherwise engage in unjust conduct; - it also establishes a Motor Vehicle Repair Industry Compensation Fund to compensate owners of vehicles who suffer loss as a result of incompetent repairs; and
- the Bill will also establish an Education and Research Fund. |
