The purpose of this Bill is to recognise the transfer of assets and liabilities in Western Australia under the principle of succession in law and the associated Advance Bank (Merger with St. George Bank) (Taxing) Bill 1998 is drafted to render amounts payable to the State of Western Australia equivalent to amounts that would have been payable by way of taxes, duties and charges for which St. George or Advance Bank would be liable under the law of the State if the translated assets and liabilities of St. George as the result of an ordinary commercial transaction rather than by operation of the New South Wales regulation. |
