Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1184 asked in the Legislative Council on 17 October 2019 by Hon Diane Evers

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

BUNBURY OUTER RING ROAD — SOUTHERN SECTION

1184. Hon DIANE EVERS to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

This is question without notice C978 asked originally in September. I refer to the Bunbury Outer Ring Road project southern corridor.

(1) Is the minister aware that just last week a giant paperbark tree in Gelorup was recognised as one of the biggest in Australia by the National Register of Big Trees?

(2) Is the minister aware that this tree is in close proximity to what is thought to be the world's biggest tuart tree?

(3) Will the minister please advise what impact the proposed Bunbury Outer Ring Road southern route will have on these trees?

(4) Will the minister please advise how the government plans to mitigate this impact?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following information has been provided by the Minister for Transport. Noting that it was first asked on 24 September, the information is current as at that date.

(1) Main Roads has advised that it understands the paperbark tree in question is on private land and is not affected by the project.

(2) Main Roads understands that the paperbark tree is close to the veteran tuart tree in Gelorup.

(3)–(4) The government has proposed to adjust the alignment of the Bunbury Outer Ring Road to avoid the veteran tuart tree.
