Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 322 asked in the Legislative Council on 27 May 2010 by Hon Lynn Maclaren

Parliament: 38 Session: 1

ROE HIGHWAY — STAGE 8

322. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the Minister for Transport:

I refer to the design phase of the Roe Highway extension through the Beeliar wetlands known as Roe 8.

(1) How much has been spent so far on the design of a bridge as part of the Roe 8 extension?

(2) Is the estimate of about $1 million correct?

(3) Has an analysis of the proposed bridge revealed that there will be an impact on the hydrology of the area?

(4) How many pylons are proposed and what material will they be constructed of?

(5) Have more endangered species not listed previously been identified in the area?

(6) Will the minister table any current information on the environmental findings to date?

Hon SIMON O’BRIEN replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question.

(1)–(6) Design and planning work for the much-needed Roe Highway extension, which the latest estimates states will carry 79 000 vehicles per day by 2031, are ongoing. I will be happy to provide all available information to the house upon completion of the process.

For the interim, for the member who is hugging herself in anticipation of this information coming through, I can give some general indication of the work in progress.
Several members interjected.

Hon SIMON O’BRIEN: No, there has not been.

I refer to the amount of money that has been spent on the design of a bridge and advise that the estimate of $1 million is nowhere near it. I understand there have not been any endangered species not listed previously identified in the area.
