Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 937 asked in the Legislative Council on 5 December 2017 by Hon Diane Evers

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

ENVIRONMENTAL WEED PERMIT 13333
      937. Hon DIANE EVERS to the Minister for Environment:
I refer to question without notice 839, asked on 9 November 2017. Given that Kings Park adjoins residential areas and is a high public use area, particularly the bushland walking tracks, what is the government doing to ensure that the public, especially children and other vulnerable groups, are not exposed to the schedule 7 poisons contained in environmental weed permit 13333?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
The preparation and application of all agricultural chemicals for weed control in Kings Park adhere to strict procedures, including the use of exclusion zones, restricted access and signage, in accordance with Department of Health regulations, to protect the operators and the public from accidental exposure to chemicals. None of the schedule 7 dangerous poisons authorised under permit 13333 are currently used for weed control in Kings Park.
