With reference to question without notice No. 982 of 17 September 2014, in the event of a nuclear detonation or other nuclear incident:
(a) which healthcare facilities are assumed to function; and
(b) what staff would be available to provide triage care?

Answered on 14 October 2014

(a) Perth metropolitan tertiary hospitals and secondary and regional hospitals with equipment and training for responding to Chemical, Biological, Radiological or Nuclear incidents.

These hospitals are:

Royal Perth Hospital

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

Fremantle Hospital

Princess Margaret Hospital

Peel Health Campus

Rockingham General Hospital

Joondalup Health Campus

Nichol Bay Hospital (Karratha)

Kalgoorlie Hospital

Southwest Health Campus (Bunbury)

Northam Hospital

(b) The Hospital Response Team Subplan, which is a Subplan of Westplan Health, outlines the procedures for deployment of triage and treatment teams in the event of a major event, including a nuclear incident. Personnel deployed are dependent on the extent of the incident, the number and severity of casualties and the distance from the nearest tertiary hospital.

The plan is publicly available at the following address:
