Parliament: 40 Session: 1

KINGSTON FAUNA HABITAT ZONE — MINERALS EXPLORATION LICENCE
      393. Hon DIANE EVERS to the minister representing the Minister for Mines and Petroleum:
I refer to the grant of exploration licence application E70/5107.
(1) What minerals are the applicants looking for?
      (2) Is the minister aware that a large proportion of the ground applied for lies in the proposed Kingston fauna habitat zone?
(3) If yes to (2) —
          (a) how would exploration activities impact on the fauna habitat zone; and
          (b) how would the fauna habitat zone be protected if exploration activities are undertaken?
      (4) Has any other grant of exploration licence applications in the area been refused in the past; and, if yes, what applications were refused and why were they refused?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question. The Minister for Mines and Petroleum has provided the following information.
      (1) Exploration licence E708/5107 is at the application stage. The target minerals are nickel, cobalt and gold.
