PERTH
TRAIN STATION — PATRONAGE
80. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the patronage of public transport trains.
(1) What is
the expected increase in patronage through the Perth train station over the
next three years?
(2) What measures
has the minister put in place to deal with the expected increase in patronage?
(3) How many new
carriages will be in operation this year and next year?
(4) How will
increased pedestrian traffic in the Perth underground station during peak hours
be ameliorated?
Hon
JIM CHOWN replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) Growth in
the system has been estimated at six per cent per annum over the next three
years.
(2) One of the
outstanding features of the Perth City Link project, currently being
constructed, is a major pedestrian underpass that will connect the Perth city
station to the Perth underground station. This underpass has been designed as a
wide thoroughfare with a high level of pedestrian amenity and is being built to
meet future capacity requirements. It will greatly improve access between the
stations and the flow of pedestrian movements both now and into the future.
(3) Eight
three-railcar sets will be put into service.
(4) Please
refer to (2).
