Question
(1) How many cattle were exported to Indonesia from Western Australia for breeding purposes -
(a) to date in 2011;

(b) in 2010; and

(c) in 2009?

(2) Where in Indonesia do those cattle go?

(3) Does the Minister know -

(a) how those cattle are transported in Indonesia, on land and between islands; and

(b) where they are kept for breeding purposes?

(4) If no to 3(a) and (b), why not?

(5) If yes to 3(a), can the Minister give an assurance to the House that the conditions of transport would satisfy Australian standards of animal welfare?

(6) If yes to 3(b) -

(a) are the places at which the cattle are kept regularly inspected, and if so, by whom?

(b) can the Minister give an assurance to the House that the conditions in which the cattle are kept would satisfy Australian standards of animal welfare?

(7) If no to (5), in what ways do the conditions in which the cattle are transported fall short of those standards?

(8) If no to (6)(a), why not?

(9) If no to (6)(b), in what ways do the conditions in which the cattle are kept fall short of those standards?

(10) Where are the cattle and their calves that are sent to Indonesia for breeding purposes ultimately slaughtered?

(11) Can the Minister give an assurance to the House that the conditions in the slaughterhouses at which the cattle and their calves are slaughtered would satisfy Australian standards of animal welfare?

(12) If no to (11), in what ways do the conditions at those slaughterhouses fall short of those standards?

(c) 44 purebred beef breeding cattle

(2) According to official Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) figures 29 were discharged at the port of Jakarta/Tanjung Priok and 15 were discharged at what ABS categorises as "Other and Unspec Ports - Indonesia.

(3) (a) No

(b) No

(4) The Western Australian Government is responsible for the welfare of animals within its jurisdiction. The Western Australian Government does not monitor the welfare or location of animals outside its jurisdiction.

(5)-(9) Not Applicable

(10) Please refer to part (4).

(11) The locations are not known so no such assurance can be given.
