Question On Notice No. 5741 asked in the Legislative Council on 20 June 2012 by Hon Lynn Maclaren

Question Directed to the: Minister for Child Protection representing the Minister for Heritage
Parliament: 38 Session: 1

Question

I refer to the allocation in the 2012-2013 State Budget of $4.7 million in the form of a Treasury advance for the restoration of 57 Murray Street under the National Trust Asset Investment Program, and ask —
              (1) Can the Minister confirm that the allocation is conditional on the National Trust selling the cost equivalent of heritage places over the next four years to pay off this advance?
              (2) If no to (1), what are the conditions of the allocation?
              (3) If yes to (1), does the Minister support the sale of State heritage assets that are under the care and control of the National Trust?
              (4) If yes to (3), what role with the Minister play in this process, noting that he is supportive of it?
Answered on 21 August 2012

1) Yes

2) Not applicable.

3) The Minister for Heritage  supports the ability of the National Trust to transition properties to other owners with appropriate heritage safeguards in place and with due consideration being given to other aspects.

4) Under section 20 of the National Trust of Australia (W.A.) Act 1964, the Trust may dispose of properties it holds with the consent of the Governor. The Minister for Heritage has a role in obtaining that consent.
