Parliament: 39 Session: 1

GREAT WHITE SHARK — THREATENED SPECIES LIST

508. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the minister representing the Minister for Environment:

(1) When was the last time the vulnerable status of the white shark—Carcharodon carcharias—was reviewed under the Wildlife Conservation Act 1950?

(2) Who conducted the review?

(3) Which agencies contributed scientific data to the review?

(4) Please table the report or findings of the review process.

Hon HELEN MORTON replied:

I thank the member for some notice of the question.

(1) The last time was 1999, but the threatened species list is reviewed annually.

(2) The Western Australia Threatened Species Scientific Committee conducted the review.

(3) The commonwealth Endangered Species Scientific Subcommittee provided advice for the proposed listing under the commonwealth Endangered Species Protection Act 1992. This advice was considered for the listing of this species under the Wildlife Conservation Act 1950.

(4) I table the nomination and associated assessment information.
