Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 426 asked in the Legislative Council on 21 June 2012 by Hon Lynn Maclaren

Parliament: 38 Session: 1

SCREEN PRODUCTION PRECINCT

426. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the minister representing the Minister for Culture and the Arts:

(1) Did the minister receive a request for funding for a screen production precinct to be included in the 2012–2013 state budget from the Film and Television Institute of Western Australia?

(2) Does the minister recognise and support the ongoing success and expansion of the state's screen production industry?

(3) If yes to (2), why did the minister not support funding for a screen production precinct in the state budget?

(4) What action will the minister take to ensure that the state hosts a screen production precinct in the future?

Hon HELEN MORTON replied:

I thank the member for some notice of the question.

(1) No. ScreenWest submitted a proposal as part of the culture and arts portfolio strategic asset plan, not as part of the 2012–13 budget process.

(2) Yes.

(3) As above in (1), ScreenWest submitted a proposal seeking funding to examine the future infrastructure needs of the Western Australian screen industry as part of the culture and arts portfolio's strategic asset planning processes.

(4) The commissioning of a report to investigate the future infrastructure needs of the Western Australian screen industry is currently being discussed internally within the Department of Culture and the Arts in the context of the culture and arts' portfolio strategic asset planning processes.
