FUNDING
113. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the
minister representing the Minister for Culture and the Arts:
(1) Has the
government refused a request by Kulcha, Multicultural Arts of WA, for a
financial assistance package?
(2) If yes to
(1), why?
(3) In light
of winning the WA Office of Multicultural Interests 2013 Community Service
Excellence Award, and in 2012 the national Australia Business Arts Foundation—AbaF—Regional
Partnership Award, what steps will the government take to ensure continued
support for multicultural arts in Western Australia?

I thank the member for some notice
of this question.
(1) Kulcha,
Multicultural Arts of WA, made a request for additional state government
funding over and above its 2014 allocation of $183 305, which, following an
independent audit, was declined.
(2) The
decision not to support the recapitalisation was made following a detailed
analysis of the request and the financial capacity of Kulcha.
(3) The
Department of Culture and the Arts is currently preparing options for
consideration for the use of the funding previously allocated to Kulcha.
