Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 724 asked in the Legislative Council on 25 September 2012 by Hon Lynn Maclaren

Parliament: 38 Session: 1

BROWSE LNG PROJECT — ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AUTHORITY MEMBERS — CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

724. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the minister representing the Minister for Environment:

I ask this question on behalf of Hon Robin Chapple, who has left the chamber on urgent parliamentary business.

The question is on the membership of the Environmental Protection Authority board and the development of the EPA report and recommendations into the proposed Browse liquefied natural gas precinct at James Price Point, north of Broome.

(1) When did EPA board members Dr Chris Whitaker and Mr Denis Glennon commence to hold Woodside shares?

(2) On what date did the EPA provide its report and recommendations on the proposed Browse LNG precinct to the Minister for Environment, pursuant to section 44 of the Environmental Protection Act?

Hon HELEN MORTON replied:

I thank the member for some notice of the question.

(1) The Environmental Protection Act 1986 requires EPA board members to disclose any direct or indirect pecuniary interest in a matter before the board. This has been done.

(2) The chairman of the EPA, under delegated authority provided for in instrument of delegation 27 of 2012, dated 5 July 2012, reported under section 44 of the act on 16 July 2012.
