Question

(1) Will the Minister identify how many unannounced livestock compliance unit (LCU) visits there were in Western Australia in the last 12 months to date to:
(a) saleyards;
(b) export depots; and
(c) ports?
(2) How many matters arising from these visits have been investigated under the Animal Welfare Act 2002  in the last 12 months to date?
(3) Of the matters investigated, how many resulted in:
(a) direction notices;
(b) written warnings; and
(c) prosecutions?
(4) How many animal welfare incident reports have been received from Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) accredited export abattoirs in Western Australia in the last 12 months to date?
(5) How many of these have been investigated under the Animal Welfare Act 2002?
(6) Of the incidences reported, how many resulted in:
(a) direction notices;
(b) written warnings; and
(c) prosecutions?
(7) Can the Minister explain why Western Australia is the only jurisdiction not to have adopted the Land Transport Standards 2012?

(7) Unlike some other jurisdictions, the Western Australian Animal Welfare Act 2002 does not allow the adoption of the Livestock Transport Standards 2012 as enforceable standards. In Western Australia the standards need to be redrafted into Regulations. This work has been given priority in the livestock portfolio at Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia.
