Question Without Notice No. 242 asked in the Legislative Council on 18 May 2010 by Hon Lynn Maclaren

Parliament: 38 Session: 1

POINT PERON MARINA

242. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the minister representing the Minister for Planning:

I refer to the announcement of plans to develop a marina near Point Peron.

(1) Were potential impacts on environmental heritage values identified during the preliminary strategic review?

(2) Who were the relevant Aboriginal people informed about the proposal referred to on page 108 of the strategic environmental review prepared for the Cape Peron tourist precinct steering committee?

(3) In this review, which Aboriginal and European heritage sites have been identified as facing potential impacts?

(4) Will the minister detail the consultation process to date involving the Aboriginal community?

Hon ROBYN McSWEENEY replied:

I thank the member for some notice of this question.

(1) Yes.

(2) Representatives of the Naramya Aboriginal Corporation were consulted during the strategic environmental review. The three Aboriginal consultants referred to in the McDonald Hale report of 1997 were not identified.

(3) The Aboriginal Sites Register with the Department of Indigenous Affairs lists the following sites as being within the vicinity: S0 2223, S0 2169 and SO 2625.

(4) Consultation to date has been with representatives of the Naramya Aboriginal Corporation. This is in addition to the investigations referred to above in the McDonald Hale report of 1997.
