Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 500 asked in the Legislative Council on 8 May 2014 by Hon Lynn Maclaren

Parliament: 39 Session: 1

LATITUDE 32 INDUSTRIAL ZONE — RESIDENTIAL BUFFER

500. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the minister representing the Minister for Planning:

(1) Has the City of Cockburn or the Town of Kwinana allocated residential areas within the buffer zone of the Latitude 32 industrial zone?

(2) If yes to (1), has the minister considered the health impacts on individuals living in the buffer zone?

(3) Is the minister aware that many residents suffered considerable distress because they were forced to leave the area when it was zoned industrial?

(4) Does the minister concede that the buffer zone must remain free of residential development?

Hon HELEN MORTON replied:

I thank the member for some notice of the question.

(1) No. The City of Cockburn and the Town of Kwinana have not zoned any land in the Kwinana industrial buffer area as residential since the buffer was established.

(2) Not applicable.

(3) Residents in the former town sites of Hope Valley and Wattleup were compensated at market value.

(4) The matter of residential development within the Kwinana industrial buffer is subject to future consideration by government.
