RECREATIONAL VESSEL
SAFETY EQUIPMENT REVIEW
703. Hon PETER COLLIER to
the minister representing the Minister for Transport:
I ask this question on behalf of Hon
Simon O'Brien, who is away on urgent parliamentary business.
I
refer to my question without notice 654, notice of which was given on 18 June
2020, seeking information about the second round of community
consultation on the ''Recreational Vessel Safety Equipment Review:
Position Paper—October 2019''. Although I appreciate that the
government is still considering its position on these matters, I again ask the
straightforward question that was not answered at that time. What percentage of
survey respondents supported each of the prospective proposals?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by
the Minister for Transport.
Although
the survey results indicated broad support for the majority of proposals, the
Department of Transport is taking account of the qualitative responses to its
proposals, as well as the quantitative responses when they have been provided.
It is relevant, for example, whether those who did not support a proposal
wished it to be more or less onerous than what was proposed. The minister will therefore provide more detail of the
community response when it can be provided with the department's and
the external reference group's analysis and recommended response to
that feedback.
