Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 328 asked in the Legislative Council on 2 April 2020 by Hon Robin Scott

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

CORONAVIRUS — REGIONAL MRI PATIENTS

328. Hon ROBIN SCOTT to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:

I refer to the ban on travel within the state and note that regional patients requiring MRI treatment will have to seek an exemption to receive their treatment in Perth.

(1) Does the government consider that the expediting of an MRI machine in Kalgoorlie is necessary in the circumstances; and, if not, why not?

(2) Can the minister guarantee that regional patients will be safe when receiving medical services in Perth hospitals?

Hon ALANNA CLOHESY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. I note that this question was submitted and the draft answer prepared on Wednesday, 1 April, so the answer was accurate at that date.

(1) No. At this time, WA Country Health Service intends to continue with procurement and tender activities required to progress the purchase and installation of an MRI machine and the associated construction works in Kalgoorlie.

(2) The WA Department of Health is confident that the right people, protocols and processes are in place to deliver safe and high-quality health services to all patients across the state during the COVID-19 pandemic.
