Synopsis | The main purpose of this Bill is the introduction of public funding of candidates and parties and minimum thresholds for election funding and return of deposits. Other provisions include the clarification of the qualifications for nominating as a candidate, modification of the counting method for the Legislative Council, removal of prisoner voting rights, simplified early voting procedures, increased provisions for the privacy of electoral information, changes to the definition of "small party" status, and other general provisions that improve electoral administration. This Bill was created when the Electoral Legislation Amendment Bill 2006 (158) was divided into three in the Legislative Assembly on 14 September 2006.
