The purpose of this Bill is to -
amend the Coal Miners' Welfare Act 1947; provide for the wind-up of the Coal Mines Accident Relief Fund; provide for a different Fund, the Coal Miners' Welfare Fund, to receive moneys standing to the credit of the Coal Mines Accident relief Fund at its wind-up, and the levy from mine owners on the output of all coal sold which is currently payable at a rate of 0.4101 cents per tonne to the Coal Mines Accident Relief Fund; and
revive certain provisions of the Coal Mines Regulation Act 1946 in order to validate the operations of the Coal Mines Accident Relief Fund since the Act was repealed in 1995 and provide for the wind-up of the Fund and associated matters, including the lump sum pay out of all remaining beneficiaries of the Fund. |
